Grand Rapids Community College offers high-quality general education literacy instruction and English proficiency instruction, GED and ESL preparation, to central city residents in a neighborhood site that is accessible and familiar at the West Side Learning Corner on the corner of Seward and Fourth Street NW. The College will also continue to offer ESL education in the evening at the Leslie E. Tassel M-TEC on Godfrey Ave.

The goal of the program is to help individuals obtain GED certification, acquire English proficiency, and continue to achieve their educational and employment goals.

  • The Learning Corners provide GED preparation courses in the subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing, and Reading for those and who have or have not obtained a GED certificate.
  • They also offer English as Second Language (ESL) instruction.
  • The Learning Corners provide program participants with access to a computer skills class, financial skills workshops and the Internet for research, classroom work, applying to college and other academic activities.

Summer 2009 Registration and Orientation:

(Must bring valid Michigan ID and $100 program fee)

First Assessment:

May 8, 2009………………………………. 9 AM or 4 PM

(Student must have completed first assessment before taking the second assessment)

Classes start May 11, 2009

(Students will not be allow to start classes if they have not registered, completed an orientation and taken all assessments )


Requirements

Must at least be 20 years of age by September 1 of each school year.

Must have a valid Michigan ID or Drivers License

Must pay $100 program fee during orientation. (A $75.00 program fee may be waived if you meet Federal Income Guidelines and are able to provide documentation, please contact the Learning Corner for more information).

Must attend an orientation and complete all assessments before the first day of class.
