Challenge 2: Revitalize the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center

Since 2009, our region’s manufacturing sector has added 19,300 jobs and grown by just over 17 percent. Constant automation of manufacturing equipment and processing evolves the work, requiring technicians to have a more robust skill set than ever before.

The drumbeat of advancement in manufacturing has challenged the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center to change with the times to suit the needs of the 25-year partnership between GRCC and FSU programs. Although some space within the ATC has been revamped, the Manufacturing and IT areas haven’t changed with the changing times.

Adding a new lab and upgrading equipment will augment overall capacity and increase the number of students earning the credentials necessary to land good-paying jobs.

More than 21 percent of jobs needed in West Michigan are in manufacturing, and we can help students meet that demand with revitalized learning spaces and resources.
