May 1, 2019 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College’s Lakeshore Campus is partnering with Latin Americans United for Progress as title sponsor for Fiesta 2019!, a Holland event celebrating Latino culture.
The event runs from 5-10 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Shops at Westshore, 12331 James St. in Holland. A dance is planned for 7:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Holland Armory, 16 W. Ninth St., Holland.
“We’re proud to be a part of the Holland community and Fiesta 2019,” said Dan Clark, dean of Academic Outreach and GRCC’s Lakeshore Campus. “Like LAUP, we are focused on serving the Lakeshore community, making sure people have opportunities to grow and thrive.”
GRCC’s Lakeshore Campus offers classes for credits toward degrees and job skills leading to rewarding careers. GRCC staff will be at the event to share information about classes and programs offered at the Thompson M-TEC, Midtown Center, Grand Valley State University’s Meijer Campus and the Careerline Tech Center as well as the Main and DeVos campuses and Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC in Grand Rapids.
Fiesta is a family event coinciding with Tulip Time that includes entertainment, food, rides and other activities.
LAUP is an organization focused on empowering Latinos through advocacy, celebration and education. Activities include the Annual Hispanic Youth Conference and Adelante and Mas Adelante youth program. The group also provides community services, including document and form translation assistance.
“The GRCC Lakeshore Campus is an excellent educational resource for our community, and we’re excited it will be our Fiesta 2019! title sponsor,” said Ed Amaya, LAUP interim executive director.
Grand Rapids Community College has been offering educational opportunities in West Michigan for more than 100 years. Established in 1914, the college offers degree courses, certification and training programs, and workshops and personal enrichment classes. Offerings are held on GRCC’s downtown Grand Rapids campus, and at several locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties, as well as through distance learning.
