Inayah Hakeem named GRCC Student Alliance president

GRCC's Student Alliance serves as the intermediary between the student body and the campus administration. It keeps students up to date on policy changes and fosters opportunities to get involved. The alliance also serves as a resource to students for professional development and leadership growth.

Let’s meet the 2020-2021 officers:

  • Inayah Hakeem will serve as president. Her major is undecided but she is on a humanities and communications pathway. She served as the alliance's communications director last semester and has also been involved with the NAACP Youth Council and Youth Squad, which provides Muslim communities with enjoyable activities to partake in with family and friends. She spoke at the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance’s "Calling All Colors" fall conference in 2019 and at Jenison High School's Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration in 2020.  "I, along with my team, are honored to be able to be of service and represent GRCC’s student body," she said.

  • Rallah Cobbins is the new director of External Affairs. Cobbins, who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in architecture, was an executive board member for the Black Africana Student Union and Raider Nation Gaming. He also became a member of the Honors Program in 2020.

  • Brendan Burke will serve as director of Communications. A Rockford resident, his leadership experience includes being a camp counselor and a manager at Taco Bell. "I am looking forward to get to know everyone better and to be a leader for GRCC," he said.

  • Nio Walton is the director of Operations. Last year, he served as the alliance's director of External Affairs and has had roles in several GRCC Players productions. "Being a part of Student Alliance has really given me the opportunity to extend my knowledge on leadership, humility, and what it means to be a part of something bigger than myself," he said. "We always make it a priority that our whole team is accounted for and feel comfortable in their positions. I couldn’t have asked for a better home away from home!" His office hours are 9-11 a.m. Mondays through Wednesdays.

During the academic year, Student Alliance meets at 2 p.m. every other Thursday in the board of trustees meeting room on the fifth floor of Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall.
