Dear GRCC Family,
Out of abundance of caution to prevent and contain the spread of the coronavirus, Grand Rapids Community College will begin delivering instruction through distance education on Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 3, effective for GRCC main and Lakeshore campuses until directed otherwise.
This comes after consulting with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other higher education leaders.
In consultation with the Kent County Health Department, GRCC will continue monitoring this evolving situation and determine by Friday, March 27, if we need to extend.
In-person instruction will be suspended on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday March 12, 13, & 14 to provide faculty the opportunity to prepare for course content to be online. Safety remains our top concern. We ask for patience and flexibility as we move forward.
We also know that in difficult times, the GRCC family pulls together. We have a talented innovative faculty committed to carrying out our mission of providing the education our students need to grow and thrive.
More direction will be provided to faculty, and students can anticipate guidance in the coming days.
These are preemptive steps intended to slow the spread of the illness, which helps ease demand on health care systems now and in the coming days and weeks. At this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in the Grand Rapids area. Unless otherwise specified, all GRCC sites remain open and services will continue to be provided. All faculty and staff are required to report to work as normal on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13.
Effective Monday, March 16, GRCC sponsored events that anticipate an attendance of more than 100 will be canceled or postponed.
