Community Partner Interest Form

This form is for community organizations, who are looking to partner with a Grand Rapids Community College faculty member in order to create a service learning project for students.

At GRCC Service Learning is ...

Academic Service Learning (ASL) is a teaching methodology that combines service and learning.

Service opportunities are purposefully designed to deepen learning of course concepts, foster development of institutional learner outcomes (ILO) and positively impact the community.

Goals of Academic Service Learning include:

  • Facilitation of understanding of course and institutional learner outcomes through application of material, discovery learning, and tests of goodness of fit.
  • Serves identified community needs.
  • Involves reflection and extraction of meaning.
  • Taught by ASL approved faculty.
  • Completion of 10-25 hours of service.

*1-2 credit course might require 10 hours

*3-4 credit course requires at least 15 hours

Service learning is not...

• A one-sided experience.

• Passive learning.

• Volunteering.

This experience should benefit both the student and the community partner.  It is important that the community partner and faculty work together in creating the project to make sure all parties benefit from the experience.
