Social WritingMondays
noon-2 p.m.
Virtual

Research tells us that if we want to add exercise to our routines, it's useful to schedule it, keep track of workouts, and sync up with a friend. TLDE's Social Writing sessions harness these same strategies for faculty and staff who are trying to put writing time into their schedules. Social Writing is for anyone who wants to intentionally set aside time to get work done. Use these two hour blocks to grade, create course content, research your latest project, or generate any kind of written work. The crux of Social Writing is that we hold space for ourselves to do work that is important to us. We meet up on Zoom, and after a brief check in, we dive into our work for two hours. And that's it. Sharing is not part of our session, but a natural offshoot of Social Writing is the kind of connections that lead to sharing. No need to register; just drop in and then self report your hours in PeopleSoft.

1/15, 1/29, 2/12, 3/4, 3/18, 4/1, 4/15

Handling Demand for Dual EnrollmentTuesday, 3/5/2024
1-3 p.m.
Virtual Dual enrollment has been a critical lifeline for community colleges amid a general, nationwide decline in enrollment - yet it is not without challenges. Community colleges may find it difficult to generate interest in dual enrollment programs in some school districts, while they struggle to meet demands in others. Colleges may also find it challenging to maintain a commitment to equity as well-resourced districts request more dual enrollment courses, while more diverse - yet less resourced - districts remain underserved, with fewer dual enrollment offerings. Even finding and training faculty to teach dual enrollment courses can sometimes prove to be an obstacle. This one hour webinar, which we will watch virtually as a group, will be followed by facilitated discussion and plans for next steps.

Learning Circle: GRCC Working Parents & CaregiversWednesday, 3/13/2024
1-2:30 p.m.
VirtualSome of our hardest work as parents/caregivers happens before and after working hours (and especially on weekends). So much is expected of us at home and at work, especially with students coming to school needing more and more from us, no matter what our title is at GRCC. How then, do we best do all of our jobs while staying calm and grounded and maintaining a sense of self that isn't solely defined by the work we do to care for others? We will gather to read parenting memoirs that address this central question, share thoughts about work/life balance, start a low-key journaling practice, and support each other throughout the academic year.
Guiding Our Students Past the SensationalismTuesday, 4/2/2024
2-3 p.m.
VirtualWe are all being exposed to more information at once than ever before in human history. With so many information outlets vying for our attention, many have turned to sensationalism to attract clicks. This presentation and workshop is designed for instructors across disciplines. Led by a college librarian, we will discuss how to teach media literacy, an important skill for our students both in the classroom and in their daily lives. Participants will leave with an activity they can tailor fit into their lesson plans.

Strategies for Tracking Post-Completion OutcomesTuesday, 4/23/2024
1-3 p.m.
VirtualThe student success agenda continues to expand the scope of data it seeks to collect, moving beyond access and completion metrics to include post-completion data as well. Community colleges are embracing their role in providing social mobility for their students, yet transforming commitment into action can be challenging, as post-completion data are not as easily available as student-and course-level metrics. This one hour webinar, which we will watch virtually as a group, will be followed by facilitated discussion and plans for next steps.
