Elias Lumpkins Scholarship

"I came back to GRCC after leaving my job so that I can focus further on my education. Seeing some of my friends graduate college has encouraged me to do so as well. After I receive my Associate of Arts, I will be transferring to GVSU for their marketing program. Receiving the Elias Lumpkins Scholarship really motivated me to complete this course. I focus on school only, so this has taken a lot of pressure off my shoulders. Education has made me realize my potential and what I’m capable of learning and applying. I value this opportunity so much."

"I knew I wanted a college education but was unsure if a baccalaureate institution was the best fit. Save for a poetry class I audited one summer at Hope College, I hadn't sat in a classroom for 12 years! I have tried to balance my personal life and my work life as an office assistant in the Student Records Office with being active in Student Life. My biggest accomplishment is the Native American Student Organization winning the first “Best New Student Organization Award” at the Student Leadership Banquet. It was also an honor to receive nominations for the Benham Service and Civic Engagement Award and the Cedric and Sandy Ward Leadership Award. Also, I was the 2018 recipient of the annual G.R.A.H.E.N. Outstanding Adult Learner Award."

“I decided to attend GRCC to complete a course that was an employment requirement for my current job. This was my second time taking an online class. It was a lot of serious work, but I enjoyed every moment! I was so thankful to be a recipient of the scholarship. I was excited and very happy that I had the financial support to continue my education, even for one online class. My short experience will be forever remembered, and I would not hesitate to recommend GRCC to anyone looking for the opportunity to grow.”
