The Grand Rapids Promise Zone Authority Board is chaired by former Superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools, Ms. Teresa Weatherall Neal. It was formed to create the Grand Rapids Promise Scholarship for City of Grand Rapids high school graduates.
The authority board created a development and funding plan, which includes:
- Private donor fundraising.
- How much will be covered by the scholarship.
- What qualifications a student must meet to receive and maintain the scholarship.
The GRCC Partnership
The Grand Rapids Promise Zone Authority Board's partnership with Grand Rapids Community College allows them to provide tuition, books, fees and required course materials to qualifying students. The scholarship can be applied to a GRCC associate degree, certificate, or job training program.
Students can choose from 150 skilled trades, career and transfer programs, all divided into 10 Academic Pathways so students can explore careers while taking courses towards a degree.
GRCC's faculty are focused on our students' success. Courses are taught by faculty with master's degrees and Ph.D.s., and by adjunct faculty who bring real-world experience to the classroom.
GRCC students have access to:
- State-of-the-art technology.
- A range of student success resources.
- Engaging student life programs.
