Accuplacer Test

The Accuplacer measures your skill levels in reading comprehension and academic writing. This assessment will help you and your counselor determine which classes will meet and challenge your existing skillsets.

Students Required to Take the Accuplacer

All students are required to take the Accuplacer upon enrollment, except those who:

  • Have a high school GPA of 2.0 or more and an SAT math score above 24, or an ACT math score of 18 or more.
  • Are a transfer student from another college with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and have earned 12 or more credits.

If you are a guest student from another college with a GPA of 1.99 or lower, or you have earned fewer than 12 college credits, your transfer classes will be evaluated for GRCC course equivalency to see if you are required to take the Accuplacer.

Check out our testing requirements for more information.

Taking the Accuplacer

Students are highly encouraged to prepare for the Accuplacer by taking an online practice version that provides instant feedback. Email enroll@grcc.edu to ask for the practice test.

The reading comprehension test contains 23 questions for you to answer after reading passages of various lengths.

The academic writing portion will ask you to produce the type of academic writing you are likely to experience as part of your college coursework.

When you have completed the assessment, you will receive a printed report of your scores. You will also receive a list of recommended courses for you to enroll in, but the testing staff cannot interpret scores for you.

To request scores for another institution, please fill out our Accuplacer Record Release Form.
