GRCC Craft Brewing Program Featured in People.com

Grand Rapids Community College’s Craft Brewing program is receiving national attention. A recent  People.com feature highlights how students gain hands-on experience by creating and serving their own beer through Fountain Hill Brewery, GRCC’s student-run taproom. The article showcases the program’s immersive learning model, where students are involved in every step of the brewing process — from recipe development to serving customers during weekly taproom hours. This real-world experience helps prepare students for careers across the craft brewing industry. It also notes the program’s broader impact, including alumni success in West Michigan’s brewing scene and the way taproom proceeds support student scholarships. This national recognition reinforces the strength of GRCC’s hands-on programs and the meaningful, career-ready experiences our students are gaining every day.  

GRCC Bids Farewell to Interim President Triezenberg

Tech Tip: Quickly Create a New Document in Drive

Do you need to create a new Google Doc, Slide, or Sheet file fast?  Type  docs.new or  slides.new or  sheets.new into the address bar and select enter. You will be prompted to sign in to your Google account if you are not already, and a new blank document will open. This document will be created in the main folder of your Google Drive.  For more information and helpful tips, please visit the  IT Customer Support Portal or contact the IT Customer Support Desk at ext. 4357.

GRCC Players’ CONTINUITY Is a Call to Action on Climate Change

April 2, 2026 Grand Rapids Community College’s GRCC Players will perform CONTINUITY , a production highlighting the gap between art and science and the role of storytelling in our current environmental crisis. CONTINUITY tells the story of Maria, an independent film writer and director whose script on climate change has been picked up by a Hollywood studio for a feature film production. What starts as an earnest film about climate change turns into a blockbuster action movie taking place on an arctic (styrofoam) ice floe, and features an ecoterrorist plotting a bombing mission to save all of humankind (supposedly). “We selected this show because of its catty humor, metacommentary on the friction between art and business and the larger debate it initiates about the climate in the real world.” said Jason Flannery, GRCC theater instructor. “A benefit of the play is its unadorned look at our current environmental situation, with no alteration to make the story ‘satisfying’ or ‘narratively sound.’ The truth is the truth, and bending it to fit a prescribed story is a disservice to all.” CONTINUITY has prompted a wide array of responses within the GRCC Theater department; some bleak, some hopeful, some mixed. “I hope this production works like a call to action,” said Kayden Bravata, playing the role of Hollywood writer (and Maria’s ex), David Caxton. “I’d like the audience to come away with a new understanding of media portrayal on important topics, like climate change.” Kiera Zittel, who plays Maria, says being a part of this production has motivated her to create more spaces for creativity and collaboration. “Theather is a great source of community. I hope people walk out with realization that awareness without action is ultimately passivity. "Go Beyond" Recipient for March 2026

Student Employment Services sponsors the “Go Beyond” recognition program for student employees. Baker’s Market Now on Wednesday, April 15!

Mark your calendar for the Semi-Annual Baker’s Market! Happening Wednesday, April 15 from 9-11 a.m. in the Secchia Piazza. That’s right, on a Wednesday this time!  The culinary students in the Retail Baking class have been hard at work perfecting their recipes, and it’s time for you to enjoy them! Celebrate tax day with a sweet treat. Choose from brookies, strawberry matcha tiramisu, black and white cookies, conchas, mini pineapple upside down cakes, entremets and more.  All items are $5 and sales are  card only . Quantities are limited, and first come first serve.  See you there!
