GRCC’s Psychology Department Lecture Series: Neural, Hormonal and Sensory Regulation of Parental Behavior with Oct. 23
Dr. Kristina O. Smiley, University of Michigan Psychology 2-3:15 p.m. Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center (ATC) Room 168 All presentations are free and open to students and the community. No registration is required. The transition into parenting involves extraordinary coordination of multiple neural and hormonal systems that occur before and after birth to support the onset of offspring-directed behavior. Dr. Smiley will share her research on prolactin, a hormone known for its role in lactation, in the parental behavior of birds and mice, as well as her research into the neural responses of songbirds to their offspring’s auditory cues. She will also share hypotheses for her continued investigation into the interplay between neurons, hormones and sensory information in parents and their offspring. Video of all lectures will be posted after each event. To watch previous presentations, visit our Psychology Department Speakers Series webpage. Questions?
