Fall and Spring recruitment events

It’s hard to believe it is that time of year again but we are already off and running with recruitment for the new year!   This year, Omar and I have coordinated in advance once again for our Fall and Spring events for your planning purposes.  Here is our  calendar of events for the year that involve faculty and departments across campus.  The GRCC’s Admissions Team is kicking off the first event this Fall with our annual Open House.  While I provided some details in the calendar linked above, the Open House’s typically highlight the following activities for prospective students and their families:  Student Tours Campus Overview and Admissions Presentation Academic Advising and Transfer Presentations Financial Aid Presentation Resource Fair We would love to have your department represented.  It is a great chance to connect with future GRCC students, answer questions, and showcase your department! “Go Beyond” recognition program for Student Employees

Career & Student Employment Services sponsors the “Go Beyond” recognition program for Student Employees.  This program recognizes Student Employees who go beyond their normal job responsibilities to provide extraordinary service while working at GRCC.   Nominated student employees receive a special GRCC T-shirt and a gift card.  Congratulations to our “Go Beyond” recipients for August 2024:  Coral Dela Garza (Lakeshore Campus), Maegan Swanson (Disability Support Services), Emerson Gill (AATC) and Shaam Singh (AATC). ArtPrize Open House

Join us for an artful celebration! The GRCC Paul Collins Art Gallery is hosting six ArtPrize artists this year. GRCC staff, faculty, alumni, donors and board members are invited to our  ArtPrize Open House! Immerse yourself in creativity and inspiration as we showcase the vibrant works of talented artists and hear from each of them about their pieces. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 4-6 p.m. GRCC Paul Collins Art Gallery located on the 4th floor of Raleigh J. IT Support Portal: Service Catalog and the Knowledge Base

Did you know IT has a self-service  Support Portal  where you can easily and quickly report issues, submit service requests, and search for knowledge articles? Two major components of the Support Portal are the Service Catalog and the Knowledge Base . The Service Catalog provides easy access to a large variety of services that the IT department offers. Placing a service request through the portal is helpful in that it guides you through questions we will need to fulfill the request, saving you time! The Knowledge Base includes answers to common questions that we receive in the IT department as well as how-tos on common processes and procedures specific to GRCC technology. Technology notification: Planned network upgrades

In early October, Information Technology (IT) will be rolling out an upgrade to the system that manages your login credentials and computer profile. This upgrade, which was first announced in March 2024, will enhance security and performance behind the scenes.  Your username and password will stay the same throughout the upgrade. Here’s what you need to know: What’s Changing? After the update, your login process will look the same, but it will now be routed through a new system that IT manages called Active Directory. To complete the update, you will need to restart your computer to apply the changes, then log in using your existing username and password.  How to Prepare? Make sure your campus network password is up to date and working. If you’ve forgotten it, now’s a great time to reset it! Before the update, please back up any important files or documents on your computer (like those on your desktop or in your downloads folder) by moving them to a shared network drive (such as J or S) or your Google Drive. We’ll send out more detailed instructions as we get closer to the launch in early October, so stay tuned to emails from IT Notifications. GRCC Players’ 2024-25 season features politics, hope and feminism

Sept. 5, 2024 The GRCC Players will explore the themes of politics, hope and feminism in three productions this academic year. Grand Rapids Community College revealed its 2024-25 season lineup during an open house at Spectrum Theater on Sept. 3, 2024. Student actors will delve into political intrigue with “The Outsider” by Paul Slade Smith in their Fall Main Stage production. The play examines what happens when a state governor is removed from office due to a scandal and is replaced by a lieutenant governor who is terrified of public speaking. The show will run from Nov. 14 to 16. “This play is about politics,” said Tom Kaechele, program director of Spectrum Theater. “So, if you’re one of those people who can’t get enough of politics, or if you’re sick and tired of politics, this show is for you.”  Their Winter Lab Production, “boom” by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, focuses on the search for hope amid dire circumstances. A young journalist responds to a personal ad as part of her assignment to write about something that gives her genuine hope. However, things take an unexpected turn when she meets a marine biology student who claims that fish are telling him the world is going to end today. The show will run from Jan. 15 to 18, 2025. The Winter Main Stage production, “John Proctor is the Villain” by Kimberly Belflower, follows a group of female high school students who form a feminist club after a horrible event involving a classmate. The show will run from April 3 to 5, 2025. “I’ve always had a strong appreciation for the shows GRCC puts on for its academic season,” said Jason Flannery, an adjunct professor of directing and improvisation, who will direct “boom.” “When I was a student, I struggled to find shows where I could relate to the characters, but GRCC shows feature characters that are more realistic, messy and ambiguous. They challenge students to examine new perspectives while also growing as performers.” Tickets, which can be purchased  online , are $5 for students, $10 for GRCC faculty and staff, and $15 for the general public. IT notification: Requesting new or additional network access for employees electronically

Are you still filling out a paper Application Access or Network Access Provisioning form to request access for your new or transferring employee?  We have great news for you! IT has made this process simpler by moving all of our IT services into the  Support Porta l . Using your MyGRCC account credentials to log in, you can report issues and submit service requests, including new access for employee’s on the move!  To get started, visit the  Submit a Network Provisioning Form  service! Remember, you no longer need to use the paper form. By logging into the ticketing system, your request is authorized.  Please note that only supervisors or APSS staff may request new or additional access for employee’s. National Payroll Week 2024

It's  National Payroll Week , which occurs every September. It honors employees and promotes financial responsibility. Because it's September, next January might still seem far away, but it's never too early to make tax time a little easier on yourself. Did you know that GRCC can provide employees with electronic W2s? Consenting to receive your W2s electronically means you'll be able to receive that important tax document sooner than if you elect to receive a paper W2. Electronic W2s are typically available up to two weeks sooner than the paper copies. You have to opt in to receive electronic W2s. To check your election and/or to consent to receive your W2s electronically, you can login to your Online Center with your GRCC credentials. Then select the Employee W2 Forms and Consent tile. From there, you can consent to receive your W2s electronically - and you can confirm that you've already consented because, for those who've previously elected the electronic route, it will only give you the option to withdraw your consent. Once you elect to receive electronic W2s, you don't need to make the election every year. It will stay that way until/unless you withdraw your consent. In mid-January (we'll tell you when!), you can navigate to the same spot in your OC to see your W2s. Still need a paper copy? No problem! The electronic copy is a PDF. You can download and print any that you need from any year you've worked at GRCC.
