SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing tutoring and strategies to support independent learning in the
Promise Zone Tutoring Center located at Promise Zone high school sites, which is currently at Innovation
Central High School. This position will begin in the summer and will continue in the F/W. During the summer
semester, this position may provide tutoring support in the Language Arts Lab on GRCC's main campus. In
the F/W semesters, this position will provide tutoring services to Innovation Central HS students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Summer Responsibilities
● Attend an academic writing tutoring workshop.
● Provide support to the Language Arts Lab as needed. Availability for the Language Arts Lab may be
very limited.
● Provide individual and group tutoring in both face-to-face and online formats.
● Demonstrate proficiency with the curriculum of the GRCC courses in the assigned content area. These
courses include, but are not limited to, EN 101, EN 102, EN 188, etc.
● Work cooperatively, build rapport, and maintain a close working relationship with students, staff, faculty
and administration at GRCC.
● Collaborate with Promise Zone staff to provide services to students
● Promote and develop the academic success of students by encouraging a positive attitude and
independent, self-actualized learning.
● Assist with the management and security of all resources.
● Assist in monitoring usage of the tutorial area.
● Possess excellent communication skills.
● Demonstrate professionalism and possession of character qualities including organization,
promptness, courtesy, confidentiality and dependability.
● Maintain regular communication with the Tutorial Coordinator regarding daily activities and updates.
● Attend meetings and trainings as requested by the Tutorial Coordinator.
● Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Fall/Winter Responsibilities
● Provide individual and group tutoring in both face-to-face and online formats.
● Demonstrate proficiency with the curriculum of the high school courses in assigned content area. These
courses include, but are not limited to, English 9, English 10, English 11, etc.
● Attend hourly class periods and tutor students in the classroom setting
● Create groups of students and manage a rotating schedule for students attending the Promise Zone
Tutorial Center.
● Supervise students when walking between the classrooms and the tutoring center.
● Work cooperatively, build rapport, and maintain a close working relationship with students, staff, faculty
and administration in the high school and at GRCC.
