● Complete 12 hours of NASPA Peer Educator Training & Certification
● Peer educators promote well-being and foster positive behavior change through listening, providing referrals, educating, correcting social misperceptions & stigma.
● A peer educator will leverage peer connections to enhance wellness, reduce risks, and shape campus culture.
● Facilitate relaxed, informative and interactive programs and discussions on a variety of mental health related topics
● Present programs to student organizations, academic and student services departments, and academic classes – or those requested through email to Peer Educators or other campus outreach
● Assist with promotion and implementation of special events and services sponsored by the Center for Counseling and Well-Being
● Serve in the capacity of advisors for the Center for Counseling and Well-Being; assist with Student Advisory Council meetings and events & advise CCWB faculty on current student body perspectives
● Provide information on a variety of mental health and wellness topics. Peer educators may assist other students who are seeking information; they do not provide counseling, but may make referrals or provide support.
● Focus on prevention of high-risk behaviors, encourage health and help-seeking behaviors and increase awareness of on-campus resources

● Willingness to complete initial training which includes: (Certified Peer Educator) course and certification; training around mental health topics
● Interest/experience in health promotion and mental health advocacy
● Empathy and compassion
● Cultural competency
● Desire to help others
● Effectively speaking in front of a group
● Willingness to undergo training in suicide prevention frameworks and become trained as a suicide prevention gatekeeper
● Communication and listening skills; demonstrate the ability to listen to and consider multiple points of view
● Ability to formulate innovate approaches or solutions to an issue or problem
● Be a currently enrolled student at GRCC, in good academic standing
● Effectively managing time and academic & non-academic commitments
● Ability to identify and re-evaluate assumptions
● Willingness to seek input and consultation with supervisor when situations encountered are concerning and/or fall outside of the scope/knowledge of peer educators
● Knowledge about campus resources
