New Adult Recruitment Department Ready to Serve Nontraditional Students 21 and Older

Aug. 24, 2026

Beginning Sept.1, the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) will officially transition to GRCC Adult Recruitment. This transition marks an exciting new chapter for the team and the students they serve.

The same team of dedicated employees will continue providing essential services students have come to rely on. Current TRIO EOC students will be eligible for services going forward.

A Step Toward Expanded Impact

TRIO programs are federally funded programs dedicated to first-generation, low income and underserved learners. With the current grant for GRCC’s TRIO EOC program coming to a close, the college is taking this opportunity to invest institutional resources to continue this important work and expand support beyond the limitations of the grant.

The new Adult Recruitment department will serve nontraditional, adult learners who want to pursue a postsecondary degree or certificate. Staff will help students with admissions, FAFSA and scholarship applications and career exploration. All services will remain completely free.

ā€œOur team is excited to continue helping prospective and new GRCC students navigate the college enrollment process,ā€ said Teera Wilkins, TRIO EOC project director and the new director of Adult Recruitment. ā€œWe’ll be expanding essential services and increasing access to higher education for nontraditional students.ā€

Supporting Students Is Still the Mission

The department’s focus will stay the same: helping adults 21 and older navigate the college enrollment process, connect with campus resources and achieve their educational goals.

Services encompass a student’s entire college experience:

  • Application assistance
  • FAFSA and financial aid help
  • Scholarship information
  • English language proficiency support
  • Cultural assistance
  • Academic counseling
  • Study and test taking skill support
  • Tutoring referrals
  • Personal counseling
  • Career advising
  • Transfer help

Current EOC services will continue as usual through August 31. Students who have received TRIO EOC services in the past will continue to be eligible. If you have questions about how this affects you, please reach out.
