Digital Accessibility at GRCC

Accessibility is Everyone’s Job

The U.S. Department of Justice has updated ADA Title II requirements to ensure digital content is accessible to everyone. By April 24, 2026, GRCC must make sure its websites, online tools, learning systems, digital documents and required third-party platforms meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards. This change moves us from fixing accessibility issues after the fact to creating content that is accessible by default for all users.

GRCC is not starting from scratch. The college has followed digital accessibility guidelines for many years and has policies and practices in place to support this work, including the Web Accessibility Policy (Policy 15.2). What’s new is the increased focus on ensuring accessibility is built into content and systems from the beginning, rather than addressed later through individual accommodations or remediation.

Accessibility needs to be considered during content creation and tool selection from the start, not added later, using the guidance, tools and support available at GRCC.

Why Digital Accessibility is Important

GRCC’s mission begins with being an open access college. Digital accessibility helps ensure our websites, online tools and digital content can be used by everyone in our community. By designing access into our work from the start, we create a more inclusive experience and support all learners in attaining their goals and contributing to the community.
