Virtual Constitution Day Presentation by Dave Kelly
Join the Center for Student Life and Leadership and Student Government for a virtual presentation for Constitution Day provided by student leadership trainer, Dave Kelly, on Thursday, September 17. There will be 3 separate presentation times at 12pm, 3pm and 7pm (all with their own Raider Connect event. Dave has shared the following insight to the program:
"What really happened between America’s birthday and the birth of the Constitution? On September 17, 1788, the U.S. Constitution was ratified and on March 4, 1789, a new government went into effect. This year marks the 238th anniversary of the document that reshaped how our nation is governed.
“But wait, Dave—didn’t we just celebrate our 250th birthday as a nation?”
Yes, we did! That’s exactly what makes this story so fascinating. The Constitution was not our first governing document, and the early United States operated very differently from the system we know today. So, what changed? When did it happen? Why did it matter? And what can students learn from that turning point?
I’ll be exploring those questions—and much more—during live, virtual Constitution Day sessions on Thursday, September 17 for you and your students. Your school can participate in any or all of the sessions at noon, 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Each session will cover the same core material, but the energy, interaction, and fun will come from the students and schools who join in."
