Leanne Challa’s passion for learning was shaped early by her parents, who nurtured her curiosity in the Humanities. Literature, theatre, music, and writing continue to influence both her personal and professional life, including her engagement in the local community.
As the Coordinator for Transfer & Scholarly Engagement at Grand Rapids Community College, Leanne designs and coordinates high-impact learning experiences that strengthen transfer readiness, deepen academic engagement, and help students build their scholarly identity. She leads the day-to-day coordination of transfer-focused initiatives, the Honors Program, Undergraduate Research, and the U-M Transfer Bridges initiative—working closely with faculty and campus and university partners to ensure equitable access and drive consistent, high-quality implementation across programs.
Leanne’s work is deeply informed by her own transfer journey. After beginning her studies at GRCC, she transferred to the University of Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications. She later completed a Master of Arts in Humanities at Central Michigan University. Since 2002, she has also served as a faculty member at GRCC, teaching courses in English, Humanities, and Communications.
She is committed to helping students navigate their academic paths with clarity and confidence while expanding their access to meaningful scholarly and transfer opportunities.
