Learning First at GRCC

  • GRCC offers the first two years of a university-level education with a community college philosophy.
  • Learning opportunities are offered in flexible formats, including weekday, weekend, evening, online and hybrid, and accelerated courses. Classes are offered at the Main campus in downtown Grand Rapids, at the Lakeshore Campus in Holland, and at six regional centers. GRCC also has six middle college programs and offers courses at ten concurrent sites.
  • Wherever classes are offered, GRCC keeps class size small enough to provide individualized attention and assistance to students. Fall 2020 average class size is 20.
  • GRCC faculty, over 94.9% of whom hold a Master’s Degree or Ph.D., are committed to excellence in teaching. They also bring scholarly and real-world experience to the classroom in order to best prepare students for further education and for careers.
  • GRCC is committed to the individual student’s experience and provides a wide range of student support services such as tutoring, academic advising, and counseling services all free of charge.
  • As an open access institution, GRCC provides learning opportunities to students at all levels of preparation. Our developmental programs help students become college-ready and our Honors Program challenges and motivates high achieving students to even greater success. • In our effort to provide seamless educational pathways for students, GRCC maintains 30 partnerships with regional high schools and technical centers, 29 articulated program agreements with four year partners, and seven reverse transfer agreements with local universities.
  • Grand Rapids Community College has over 140 programs of study, including transfer pathways developed to launch your education in the areas of biology, business, chemistry, criminal justice, culinary arts, health sciences, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, English, the arts, humanities and more.
  • GRCC offers 39 workforce associate degrees and 37 certificate programs including non-credit training which are designed to give you the necessary skills to immediately go to work.
  • GRCC has provided customized training to 57 companies through 227 classes, reaching 1,585 people. In addition, 427 companies were served through workforce training, continuing education and professional development reaching 18,613 community members in 2018-19.
  • GRCC has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1917. Twelve programs hold specialized accreditations: Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology, Nursing (Associate Degree Nursing and Licensed Practical Nursing), Music, Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, Radiologic Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Automotive Technology, Child Development, Corrections, Law Enforcement and Visual Arts.
