GRCC faculty are often advising students without necessarily calling it "advising." A conversation after class about changing programs, an email from a student who is struggling, supporting a student through applying to internships or Summer research, or helping a student understand their next step in their program are all important advising moments.
This interactive session invites GRCC faculty to explore what advising looks like within the classroom faculty role and how the principles of good teaching and good advising intersect. Using GRCC's Good Practices for Inclusive Teaching and Learning as a framework, we will discuss how faculty can create connections, help students navigate challenges, and partner with academic advisors and other colleagues across campus. We will also introduce Navigate as one tool that can help support this work.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify ways advising already occurs within their interactions with students.
- Explore connections between effective advising and GRCC's Good Practices for Inclusive Teaching and Learning.
- Describe how faculty, academic advisors, and other GRCC support professionals can work together to support students.
