Sometimes what happens in our classroom is only one piece of a student's story. A student who stops attending or begins missing assignments may also be struggling in other courses, navigating financial concerns, or already working with an academic advisor or another GRCC support office.
This session explores how faculty can use Navigate to better understand the whole student while maintaining appropriate boundaries. We will practice viewing student profiles, advisement reports, and previous advising interactions, identifying patterns that may warrant a conversation, and connecting students to GRCC resources through referrals. Throughout the session, we will connect these practices to creating an inclusive learning environment where students know that seeking support is encouraged.
Participants will be able to:
- Use Navigate student profiles, advising history, and Academic Advisement Reports to gather appropriate context before engaging with a student.
- Recognize indicators that may suggest a student could benefit from additional support.
- Use Navigate referrals to connect students with appropriate GRCC resources and colleagues.
