Students rarely interact with just one person at GRCC. They may be simultaneously working with classroom faculty, academic advisors, financial aid staff, counselors, and other support professionals. Thoughtful documentation can help those individual interactions become a coordinated student experience.
In this hands-on session, we'll explore how faculty can document meaningful student interactions in Navigate and use existing advising notes to better understand previous conversations. Together, we will discuss what to document, why we document, and what not to document, with an emphasis on professional, objective, student-centered communication. We will also examine how shared documentation can strengthen collaboration between classroom faculty and academic advisors.
Oh, and a bonus for your FPE: documenting your advising interactions in Navigate makes it easy to run reports showing the number of students you've advised throughout the semester or academic year. This can be helpful when documenting your work under the College Service or Student Service tab.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify student interactions that are appropriate to document in Navigate.
- Apply GRCC-informed practices for writing objective, relevant, and student-centered advising notes.
- Use shared documentation to strengthen collaboration with academic advisors and other student support professionals.
