GRCC is an open access institution, which means we are ready to welcome all learners. Whether you’re starting or restarting your education, we want you to apply and access life-changing education right here at GRCC.

If your goal is to complete an associate degree before attending a four-year institution, we can help you transfer to your dream school. If you want to learn new skills for a career, we have hands-on training programs for high-demand careers right here in West Michigan. And if you’re not sure what path to take, that’s fine too! We’re here to figure it out with you.
As a GRCC student, you’ll have access to resources and opportunities to help you succeed both academically and in your personal life. GRCC offers:
- Free academic tutoring
- Laptop and hotspot loans
- Free counseling services from licensed professionals
- Free career counseling and resources
- Free on-campus health clinic
- Free bus pass for the Rapid
- Access to Ford Fieldhouse and Recreation Center
Tuition Assistance and Scholarships
Most students qualify for at least some financial aid. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to find out if you’re eligible for federal and state grants, scholarships and need-based aid.
Some students hesitate to fill out the FAFSA because they don’t want to take out student loans. It’s important to know the FAFSA is about more than loans. Colleges like GRCC use the FAFSA to determine eligibility for state and school-based aid. The Michigan Community College Guarantee and Michigan Reconnect are two good examples. Both programs require applicants to fill out the FAFSA.
- Michigan Community College Guarantee covers in-district tuition for recent high school graduates. An additional $1,000 award for living expenses is available for students who are eligible for a federal Pell grant.
- Michigan Reconnect covers in-district tuition for Michigan residents who are 21 or older. If you live out of district, Michigan Reconnect will still cover some of your tuition costs.
The GRCC Foundation also awards more than $1 million in scholarships every year. These scholarships are made possible through generous donations and often go toward extra education expenses like books, transportation or housing.
How to Get Started
Applying is easy (and free!).
- Visit grcc.edu/Apply and find the application that best fits your goals. Most students should choose the Degree-Seeking application.
- After you apply, you’ll receive information to set up your MyGRCC account.
- Log in to your MyGRCC account and go to the Online Center to send your high school transcripts or GED certificate and SAT scores to Admissions.
- Register for New Student Orientation (there is an option for online orientation if you can’t make it in person).
- Make an appointment with an Academic Advisor to see what courses you should take.
- Now you’re ready to register for classes!
If you have questions, you can always schedule an admissions appointment. Appointments are available in-person or virtually at the Grand Rapids and Holland campus and in English or Spanish.
