The Staff Excellence in Education Award honors one staff member for their contributions to the college, higher education and the community. A committee representing various staff groups will select the Excellence in Education Staff Award recipient.

The award recipient receives $1,000 and a $1,000 contribution is also made to the GRCC Foundation in their name.

The Excellence in Education Awards are presented at the August Opening Day by the president.

Nominee eligibility

A colleague is eligible to be nominated if they:

  • Have been employed in good standing at GRCC for at least five years at GRCC.
  • Have never received the award previously.

Confidentiality is key!

All nominations are submitted without the nominee’s knowledge. Please emphasize confidentiality when obtaining and requesting comments from nominators and endorsers’ signatures.

How to nominate a colleague

  1. Complete and submit the nomination form below.
  2. Then in a separate email message, share the Staff Endorsement Signature Form link with 12 colleagues who would like to endorse the same person you've nominated, and ask them to sign and submit.

Nominations for non-winning full-time staff will automatically be reconsidered the following year.

Nominator Narratives
Please provide seven specific and concrete examples (narratives) that speak to each of the following qualities of this nominee as a staff member.

Each narrative must be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 500.
  1. Education
    • Innovative ideas, activities and/or any other examples that demonstrate why this nominee is an exemplary staff member. Please number your examples.
  2. Student service
    • Ways in which the nominee serves the needs of students at GRCC, within his or her department and/or college-wide.
  3. College service
    • Examples of service to the college. This could include serving on committees, departmental activities and/or service, presentations, etc.
  4. Professional development
    • Ways in which the nominee continues to develop skills and knowledge within his or her profession and/or field of study.
  5. Community service
    • Ways in which the nominee serves the community.
  6. Conclusion
    • A concluding statement as to why the nominee deserves of the Excellence in Education Award, highlighting evidence of his or her contribution to the mission and vision of this college as a whole.
  7. Additional comments
    • Provide supporting comments from at least one additional colleague. First, identify the name of the additional nominator, then write the comments. The nominator(s) may address each section above (i.e., education, student service, college service, professional development and/or community service), but it is not a requirement for nomination.
