Letter from President Pink regarding 2018-2021 Strategic Plan (Draft):
Dear Community Member:
My last 10 months have been busy yet productive as the new President at GRCC! A vital part of my work during this time has been to assess and revise the strategic plan of the college. Thus, last summer, I announced five strategic goals for our institution which would serve as a framework for our planning activities. These goals include:
- Teaching and Learning
- Completion and Transfer
- Community Impact
- Sustainability and Infrastructure
Last September, the GRCC Strategic Leadership Team began a 6-month process to craft a new Strategic Plan to accomplish these goals. I am pleased to share the draft plan and invite your comments.
We are seeking input from GRCC faculty and staff, students, and community members, which is where you come in. Please take the time to review the draft and provide your feedback. The SLT will review all comments at their March 16th meeting.
Questions to ask yourself when reviewing the plan draft include:
- What do you consider to be GRCC’s strengths and does this plan take advantage of those strengths to position the college to better assist students in meeting their goals?
- What do you consider to be the greatest challenges currently facing GRCC and does this plan address those challenges?
- Please share an other ideas or questions related to the strategic plan.

Strategic planning is an organization’s process of defining its strategy or direction, determining the best paths to achieve the established goals, and identifying indicators which measure progress.
Letter from President Pink regarding 2014-2017 Strategic Plan:
Grand Rapids Community College faculty and staff have been committed to student success for 100 years. While this is an exciting time as we celebrate the college’s century mark, we also are excited to launch the next phase of our strategic planning process. The 2014-17 Strategic Plan outlines the strategies, action projects, project champions and indicators of success that will drive our work during the next three years.
That includes reviewing in detail college initiatives and processes to identify strengths and challenges, and developing solutions that move the college forward. Regular monitoring reports to the Strategic Leadership Team and board of trustees will allow us to track the plan and move the needle in a positive direction through a series of 16 success indicators.
The 2014-17 Strategic Plan organizes our work under three college ends:
- Student success pathways
- Workforce pathways
- Transfer pathways
Under each college end, strategies have been developed to guide college action projects. There are a total of seven strategies and 21 college action projects. The strategies are:
- Student support
- Student learning
- Knowledge and infrastructure
- Student pathways
Please review our 2014-17 Strategic Plan. It will be the map that helps us chart the course for GRCC’s future. I extend my thanks in advance for all the work our faculty and staff will do to move these initiatives forward and improve the learning process and college experience for our students. GRCC has been — and will continue to be — the best choice for West Michigan residents as they embark on their educational journeys.
