Honors students are expected to take an active role in their personal and professional growth; participating in activities that strengthen your skills and confidence as you work toward your goals.
Each Fall and Winter semesters, you are required to complete at least one of the activities listed below. After finishing an activity, don’t forget to submit the Personal Development Reflection Form so your completion of this requirement can be recorded.
Complete an Honors Program Success Meeting with Katie Pena, Experiential Learning Coordinator
Meeting with Katie each semester helps you stay on track with Honors Program requirements and ensures you’re making the most of your opportunities. Complete the Free Online Career Assessment FOCUS 2
FOCUS 2 is an interactive tool that helps you connect who you are with where you want to go. By completing a series of short, reliable assessments, you’ll gain insight into your interests, personality, values, and skills. The system then links your results to over 1,000 career options, giving you clear, personalized pathways to explore. It’s a simple, accessible way to make informed decisions about your education and future career direction.
Meet with an academic advisor
Meeting with your academic advisor helps you make the most of your time at GRCC. Advisors ensure you’re taking the right classes for your degree, help you plan ahead for transferring, and connect you to resources that support your success. Regular check-ins keep you on track academically and prevent surprises at graduation time.
Meet with a Transfer Representative
Meeting with transfer representatives gives you the chance to explore programs at four-year colleges and universities, ask questions face-to-face, and learn about admission requirements and deadlines. These conversations help you compare options, stay on track with your transfer checklist, and prepare to apply on time—especially to competitive programs.
Participate in the University of Michigan Transfer Bridges Program
Transfer Bridges gives GRCC students a head start at U-M Ann Arbor. You’ll get tailored advising, insider workshops on applications and scholarships, access to the LSA Opportunity Hub, mentorship from former community-college transfers, and priority invites to research, internships, and campus events. It’s the smartest way to explore majors, build your U-M network, and create a smooth, competitive transfer plan—while you’re still at GRCC. This program is available to students not planning to attend UofM.
