Student Learning Outcomes

Student Learning Outcomes are leveled according to the semester and corresponding program level. The number in brackets corresponds to the expected performance in that level.

PN Program Learning Outcomes

(The practical nursing program has 3 levels. Student Learning Outcomes are leveled according to the semester and corresponding program level. The number in brackets corresponds to the expected performance in that level).

  1. Safe and Effective Care Environment: 

    The practical nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], provides[3]) nursing care that contributes to the enhancement of the health care delivery setting and protects clients and health care personnel.

    1. Coordinated Care – The practical/vocational nursing student collaborates with health care team members to facilitate effective client care.
    2. Safety and Infection Control – The practical/vocational nursing student contributes to the protection of clients and health care personnel from health and environmental hazards.
  2. Health Promotion and Maintenance:

    The practical nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], provides[3]) nursing care for clients that incorporate the knowledge of expected stages of growth and development, and prevention and/or early detection of health problems.

  3. Psychosocial Integrity:

    The practical nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], provides[3]) care that assists with promotion and support of the emotional, mental, and social well-being of clients.

  4. Physiological Integrity:

    The practical nursing student assists in the promotion of physical health and well-being by providing care and comfort, reducing risk potential for clients and assisting them with the management of health alterations.

    1. Basic Care and Comfort: The practical nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], provides[3]) comfort to clients and assistance in the performance of activities of daily living.
    2. Pharmacological Therapies: The practical nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], provides[3]) care related to the administration of medications and monitors clients who are receiving parenteral therapies.
    3. Reduction of Risk Potential: The practical nursing student reduces the potential for clients to develop complications or health problems related to treatments, procedures or existing conditions.
    4. Physiological Adaptation: The practical nursing student participates in (identifying[1], determining[2], providing[3]) care for clients with acute, chronic or life-threatening physical health conditions.

ADN Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Safe and Effective Care Environment:

    The nursing student promotes achievement of client outcomes by (identifying[1],
    determining[2], developing[3], providing and directing[4]) nursing care that enhances the care
    delivery setting in order to protect clients and health care personnel.*

    1. Management of Care: The nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], develops[3],
      provides and directs[4]) nursing care that enhances the care delivery setting to protect
      clients and health care personnel.
    2. Safety and Infection Control: The nursing student protects clients and health care
      personnel from health and environ­mental hazards.
  2. Health Promotion and Maintenance:

    The nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], develops[3], provides and directs[4]) nursing
    care of the client that incorporates the knowledge of expected growth and development
    principles, prevention and/or early detection of health problems, and strategies to achieve
    optimal health.*

  3. Psychosocial Integrity:

    The nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2], develops[3], provides and directs[4])
    nursing care that promotes and supports the emotional, mental and social well-being of the
    client experiencing stressful events, as well as clients with acute or chronic mental illness.*

  4. Physiological Integrity:

    The nursing student promotes physical health and wellness by (identifying[1], determining[2],
    developing[3], and providing[4]) care and comfort, reducing client risk potential and managing
    health alterations.*

    1. Basic Care and Comfort: The nursing student provides comfort and assistance in the
      performance of activities of daily living.
    2. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: The nursing student (identifies[1],
      determines[2], develops[3], provides[4]) care related to the administration of
      medica­tions and parenteral therapies.
    3. Reduction of Risk Potential: The nursing student reduces the likelihood that clients
      will develop complications or health problems related to existing conditions, treatments
      or procedures.
    4. Physiological Adaptation: The nursing student (identifies[1], determines[2],
      develops[3], manages and provides[4]) care for clients with acute, chronic or life
      threat­ening physical health conditions.
