International applicants must meet our English language proficiency requirements and provide test score records stating these requirements have been met.
Minimum English Requirements
Please note that our English as a Second Language program is not intended for students with an F-1 visa.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Requirements
- Written test: score of 525 or higher.
- Computer version: score of 197 or higher.
- Web-based version: score of 71 or higher.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Requirements
Score of 5.5 or higher.
Duolingo English Test (DET)
Score of 95 or higher.
English Language School (ELS) Institute Requirements
Completion level of 109 or higher.
Michigan English Test (formerly MELAB)
Score of 54 or higher.
Score of 48 or higher.
Students Exempt From Testing
You are not required to take the TOEFL or submit test results if you have completed one full academic year at a high school, college or university in the U.S. as a full-time student (without any ESL classes), or earned an accredited bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in the U.S.
Proof of language proficiency is not required of students from:
