Learning Communities bring students and faculty together through two or more linked courses built around a shared theme or experience.

Instead of taking classes separately, you will learn alongside the same group of students while exploring how topics connect across courses and real-world experiences. Learning Communities are designed to help you feel more connected to your classes, your peers and GRCC.

Why Join a Learning Community?

  • Build friendships with classmates who take courses with you
  • Shareassignments within the two courses.
  • Feel more connected to GRCC and campus resources.
  • Learn how subjects connect to real-world issues and careers.
  • Get extra support from faculty and classmates.
  • Strengthen teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

Example: Behavior, Beliefs, and Communication in Everyday Life

This Learning Community links EN 101 and PY 201 to help you understand how people think, behave and communicate in today’s world. You’ll study psychological concepts while building strong writing and research skills, and you’ll apply what you learn through real-world experiences like guest speakers, interviews, and a class visit to a community organization.

You’ll work with the same group of students across both classes, helping you build connections and a stronger sense of belonging. By the end of the semester, you’ll complete a research paper that connects psychology, communication, and real-world experiences you explored throughout the course.

2026-2027 Learning Communities

Faculty are currently working together to create new Learning Communities to be launched in the 2026–2027 academic year, beginning Fall 2026. We will post available Learning Communities here once they are finalized. Check back in early summer to explore your options.

How to Register for a Learning Community

To participate in a Learning Community, you must register for both linked courses that make up the Learning Community. Each Learning Community is designed as a paired experience, meaning the courses are connected and intended to be taken together with the same group of students.

Once the Learning Communities have been established, you will need to enroll in both to participate fully in the experience.
