LEED Signage at Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center Addition: A Self-Guided Tour

Grand Rapids Community College demonstrates its ongoing commitment to sustainability through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and an engaging self-guided tour of the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center (ATC) building addition. In September 2024, the U.S. Green Building Counsel awarded the ATC addition LEED Silver, recognizing its environmentally responsible design and construction.

What is LEED Signage?

LEED signage highlights the sustainable features that make a building energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Inside the ATC addition, visitors will find a LEED Silver plaque in the entryway along with 16 smaller signs throughout the space that describe specific green features. A brochure rack near the entrance offers self-guided tour maps, inviting visitors to explore how GRCC integrates sustainability into design, materials and operations.

Why it Matters

  • Education: The signage explains the “behind the scenes” systems that make the building energy-efficient, providing insight into innovative green design principles..
  • Sustainability: The ATC addition is GRCC’s 10th LEED-certified project, underscoring the college’s dedication to sustainable construction and renovation practices.
  • Inspiration: By showcasing real examples of environmental stewardship, GRCC encourages others to find more ways to live and work sustainably.
