College Park Plaza Renovation

Grand Rapids Community College’s College Park Plaza (CPP) will be undergoing a major renovation starting Winter 2026-27.

Departments calling CPP home include:

  • Marketing and Communications (MarComm) on the first floor and mezzanine
  • The Grants Department, also on the mezzanine
  • Departmental offices for Math, Business, English, Allied Health and Nursing on Floor 2-6.

MarComm and the Grants Department will stay put, but there may be shuffling of floors for the other departments.

In 2025, GRCC put out “Requests for Proposals” (RFP) for architectural and engineering (AE) and construction management (CM) for the project. Following GRCC’s bid process, the college awarded the AE bid to The Collaborative, and the CM bid to Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. (O-A-K).

With the A.E. and C.M. in place, GRCC chose a steering committee for the project.

There is at least one member from each department in CPP and others chosen from departments throughout the college. The committee has been meeting every other week since October.

The leaders of the GRCC steering committee held a renovation design open house on Feb. 3. The Collaborative brought design boards of all six floors (plus the mezzanine). With boards set up around the room, the architects and steering committee leaders talked with stakeholders, answered questions and encouraged feedback. Participation remained steady for the duration of the open house and provided good feedback.

Now it is back to the drawing board for The Collaborative. They will take the notes and feedback from the open house and do some redesign on the schematic design drawings.

In 2010, CPP underwent an infrastructure renovation that included new heating, ventilation and lighting systems, along with putting in energy efficient fixtures in restrooms. Those renovations earned CPP a LEED Silver® Certification.

Recent window replacement, parking ramp work, exterior masonry repair and general building envelope work helped keep the building in good repair.  This renovation will focus mainly on interior office areas throughout the building, giving departments a voice in what will best suit the work they do to best serve students with whom they work.

Please keep checking back for more updates as this project develops!
