Student Information
At this time, we are not running a for-credit Sheriffs Corrections Academy for pre-service students. It is our recommendation that if you are interested in working in a local county jail, that you apply to that agency. If hired, that agency will then sponsor you to the Sheriffs Corrections Academy. Certification is not required for being hired at an agency.
Sheriff’s Corrections agencies in Michigan require Local Corrections Officer candidates to attend a Local Corrections Academy approved by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC). This training academy meets the requirements to prepare candidates to assume the role and function of corrections officers in a local correctional facility.
The Sheriffs’ Corrections Academy Certificate is a 4-week program.
All applicants must first complete an application and be screened according to Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC) standards.
- Corrections Academy Testing - LCOPAT Test and EMPCO- Sheriff’s/Local Corrections Reading and Writing Exam.
