Reporting Misconduct, Policy Violations, or Other Concerns

Grand Rapids Community College provides several ways to report concerns involving misconduct, policy violations, student or employee behavior, safety, and other matters.

GRCC employees are required to promptly report actual or suspected violations of College policies, procedures, or applicable laws. Students and other members of the College community are also encouraged to report concerns.

Not sure where to start? You do not need to know which policy applies or which College office should handle a concern before reporting it. Share what you know, however little or much, and the College can help determine the appropriate next step.

Misconduct or Policy Violations

Report actual or suspected violations of College policies, procedures, or applicable laws, particularly when another specific reporting process does not apply or you are unsure where the concern belongs.

Reports may be made through:

Concerns involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual misconduct, or Title IX should be reported to the Office of Institutional Equity.

Different reporting options are available depending on the type of student concern.

Report concerns about student behavior or well-being that may benefit from review, support, or intervention.

Concerns Involving Employees

Employee Behavioral Intervention Team (EBIT)

The Employee Behavioral Intervention Team receives and assesses concerns involving employee behavior and takes action when appropriate.

Concerns involving possible employee misconduct or violations of College policy may also be reported through the general Misconduct or Policy Violation reporting options above.

What to Include in a Report

Provide the information you have available. This may include:

  • A description of what happened or what was reported to you
  • The name of the individual or individuals involved, if known
  • When and where the concern occurred, if known
  • Any relevant documents, messages, emails, photographs, or other information

You do not need to have all of the information before making a report. Share what you know, however little or much. Even limited information can help connect someone with the right resources, support, or response.

What Happens After a Report Is Made?

Reports are reviewed to determine the appropriate College office, department, or process for follow-up. Depending on the nature of the concern, a report may be referred to Human Resources, GRCC Police, Student Life and Conduct, Purchasing, the Office of General Counsel, the Office of Institutional Equity, or another appropriate area.
